The WHF Framework
The polycrisis cannot be understood in fragments. The World Humanism Forum connects memory, method, contemporary technology and humanist purpose to make complexity more understandable and navigable.
The Polycrisis
Ecological, social, political, economic, technological and cultural crises no longer unfold separately. They interact across institutions, societies, generations and planetary systems, producing consequences that cannot be understood through isolated expertise alone.
The challenge is not simply to accumulate more information, but to reconnect knowledge, identify interdependencies, recognise uncertainty and understand how parts and wholes shape one another. This is the context in which the World Humanism Forum works.
Historical inspiration and memory
The historical Bayt al-Hikma, the House of Wisdom of Baghdad, evokes a formative period of translation, inquiry and circulation of knowledge across cultures, languages and intellectual traditions. It provides the Forum with a historical memory of intellectual hospitality and of knowledge developing through encounter.
Intellectual method
A method for reconnecting fragmented knowledge and understanding context, interdependence, uncertainty, parts and wholes.
Contemporary technological tool
A current, subordinate and replaceable capacity for retrieving, organizing, comparing and navigating knowledge under human oversight.
Ethical horizon and purpose
An orientation toward dignity, plurality, shared planetary belonging, responsibility and the long-term conditions of life.
How the Architecture Operates
Stewards the complete ecosystem, its identity, purpose, governance and continuity.
Connects knowledge and provides the tool for navigating complexity across sources, disciplines, cultures and contexts.
Brings the architecture into human and cultural practice through encounter, dialogue and collective inquiry.
All four foundational ingredients shape every part of the Forum.

From Knowledge to Judgment
This is an enabling pathway, not a promise of predetermined results. The Forum strengthens the conditions preceding decisions; it does not decide or act on behalf of others.
Decisions and actions remain with people and institutions. Experience, criticism and evidence can return to the Forum as learning and correction.

Planetary Humanism and the HTF
Planetary Humanism gives the architecture its purpose and boundaries, directing knowledge, technology and encounter toward human dignity and planetary responsibility.
The HTF is the Forum’s operational methodology for designing, learning from and evaluating contextual initiatives under conditions of complexity. It is not a fifth foundational ingredient and does not replace the Forum’s Institutional Theory of Change.
The World Humanism Forum develops its own independent institutional synthesis. Edgar Morin’s complex thought informs its intellectual method, but the Forum does not claim to represent his work officially or exhaustively.
Planetary Humanism is the Forum’s ethical horizon and institutional development; it is not attributed to Morin or UNESCO. The historical Bayt al-Hikma is a source of inspiration and memory, not a claim of institutional continuity.
Artificial intelligence remains a subordinate and replaceable tool under accountable human stewardship. Knowledge can support understanding and judgment. Final decisions and actions remain autonomous and are the responsibility of people and institutions.
