Contemporary Bayt al-Hikma

A living space for encounter across cultures, disciplines, generations and traditions.

The World Humanism Forum’s convening and cultural component creates space for dialogue, translation, cultural expression and collective inquiry.

A memory made active.

The historical Bayt al-Hikma—the House of Wisdom—evokes intellectual hospitality, translation and the circulation of knowledge across cultures.

Contemporary Bayt al-Hikma brings this inspiration into the present as an operating component of the World Humanism Forum. It does not claim institutional continuity with the historical Bayt al-Hikma.

Difference is part of the work.

Complex questions cannot be understood through sources and analysis alone. Human relationships, lived experience and concrete encounters are essential dimensions of human inquiry.

Contemporary Bayt al-Hikma brings people into sustained contact across cultures, disciplines, generations and traditions. These relationships are not an accessory to the Forum’s work: they are necessary to its development, learning and capacity to understand complexity.

Dialogue does not erase disagreement, conflict, history or power, and it does not require consensus. It creates the conditions in which difference can become a source of deeper inquiry rather than separation alone.

A living House of Wisdom.

Contemporary Bayt al-Hikma · Dubai

The gathering is designed as a progression rather than a conventional conference: a personal welcome and aperitivo, a shared table, guided dialogue, a cultural or artistic intervention and an informal continuation on the terrace.

The purpose is not simply to stage an evening, but to create the attention, trust and human relationships through which questions and collaborations can continue beyond it.

Designed for attention, exchange and continuity.

Encounter

Bring different experiences and forms of knowledge into the same space. This makes relationships, tensions and possibilities for shared understanding more visible.

Translate

Make ideas more intelligible across disciplines, languages and traditions. Translation here includes words, concepts, assumptions and different ways of knowing.

Inquire

Explore relationships, tensions, assumptions and consequences through sustained collective inquiry. Questions remain open long enough for complexity and disagreement to become visible.

Continue

Document learning and carry questions beyond a single gathering. Relationships, evidence and unresolved issues can inform later conversations and further work.

Dates, programme details and participation pathways are published only when confirmed.

Learning that can travel beyond the room.

Convening can generate new questions, relationships, shared knowledge and pathways for further work. What follows is not predetermined: decisions and actions remain with participants and their institutions.
